While my training for the 50K was slipping I continued to create ideas of future adventures. One after the other… I envisioned myself thru hiking the PCT, running a 100 mile foot race, getting as fit as a Navy Seal, skiing better than when I was 22. Time will only answer many of these visions I have posed.
This weekend I went to Cooper Spur; a resort that lies below the Eliot Glacier on Mt Hood. My run/hike for the afternoon was no doubt a challenge. Uphill, followed by downhill. The run was only 8 miles round trip, but I ascended 3000 feet. The experience was beautiful, however like so many things in life it just did not feel right. I felt like I was seeking a feeling, a state of mind, an experience that was just barely out of reach. Pretty easy to not find something, when you do not know what you are looking for. I did spend a good chunk of this adventure reflecting on the last few months and how happy I have been to get to help my dad install our five circuit sprinkler system. The project has been a ton of work, but certainly worth it. My journal entry for the day was short and simple: “Epic afternoon in the mountains. Reflecting on it tonight... Next time I'll pause and soak in the moment a bit more.”
